My child's adult tooth is coming in behind the baby tooth

It is very common to see an adult tooth coming in behind the baby tooth. Don't worry! Your child is not part shark. Oftentimes, nothing needs to be done, and the baby tooth will fall out naturally. Occasionally, if space/crowding is a concern, or if the baby tooth is not loose at all, intervention may be necessary.

In these situations, "intervention" usually means extracting the baby tooth. Extracting these baby teeth is very quick and very easy. Sometimes, your dentist may recommend using nitrous oxide or "laughing gas" to make it even easier for your child.

Talk to us before you take your child in. The trip to the dentist may not be necessary! You may just need to work on "wiggling" at home.
